Forget Resolutions Build Routines That Actually Stick

We’ve all done it. 

New Year’s Day rolls around. 
You feel sluggish, fed up, maybe a bit heavier than you were in November. 
So you promise yourself: 

“Right new year, new me. This time I’m doing it properly.” 

You join a gym. 
You cut carbs. 
You say no to everything for two weeks straight… 

And by the end of January? 

You’re knackered. Bored. Off track. And telling yourself you’ll try again next Monday. 
Again. 

The Problem? Resolutions Are All or Nothing 

Resolutions sound great but they rarely work. 
Why? 

Because they’re usually: 

❌ Unrealistic 
❌ Restrictive 
❌ Based on guilt 
❌ Completely disconnected from your actual lifestyle 

They rely on motivation, not momentum. 
And when life gets busy (because it always does), they fall apart. 

What works instead? 
Small, realistic routines. Built around your life. Done consistently. 

Why Routines Work (Even When Motivation Fades) 

Here’s what we’ve seen time and again with the men we coach in and around Stockport and online across the UK: 

✅ Routines don’t rely on hype 
✅ Routines are flexible you don’t fail if you miss a day 
✅ Routines make healthy habits feel normal not extreme 
✅ Routines build real results that last longer than a January detox 

You don’t need to train five days a week. 
You don’t need to give up your favourite food. 
You just need to do a few simple things, over and over again even when you can’t be bothered. 

What a Real Routine Looks Like (For Real Blokes) 

It’s not fancy. It’s not perfect. But it’s doable. 

🎯 Example routine: 

  • Walk 15–30 minutes a day, even if it’s broken into chunks 
  • Eat some protein at each meal 
  • Have a pint or a treat, but not both on the same day 
  • Plan your meals 2–3 days ahead, not a whole week 
  • Do a short bodyweight session at home once or twice a week 
  • Reflect on how your day went  without judgment 

No meal plans. No pressure. Just progress. 

You Don’t Need to Start Big You Just Need to Start 

Most blokes don’t need a brand-new identity. 
They just need help turning the dial up slowly not flicking the switch all the way on, only to burn out by February.
