So… you ate a bit more.
You drank a bit more.
You moved a bit less.
Maybe you skipped your usual walks, the gym bag stayed untouched or maybe you told yourself, “I’ll deal with it in January.”
Now January’s here and the guilt’s creeping in.
Sound familiar?
If you’re feeling a bit bloated, a bit sluggish, or a bit frustrated with yourself…
Take a breath. You haven’t failed. You’re not broken. And you don’t need to punish yourself to get back on track.

The Problem Isn’t What You Ate It’s What You Think It Means
At JC Fitness, we see it every year.
Blokes in and around Stockport (and online) come back in January feeling like they’ve undone everything from the previous months. But here’s the truth:
A few days or even a few weeks of overindulgence hasn’t ruined your progress.
What does ruin it?
Beating yourself up. Starving yourself. Trying to do everything at once.
Or worst of all doing nothing, because you feel too far gone to start again.

How to Get Back on Track (Without Going to Extremes)
Here’s how to reset gently without guilt, punishment or pressure:
✅ Step 1: Ditch the Guilt. Seriously.
You enjoyed Christmas. That’s allowed.
You’re human. You’re not meant to live in restriction mode all year.
🎯 Focus on: “What can I do today that helps me feel better not worse?”
✅ Step 2: Start With Just One Habit
Trying to overhaul everything at once? That’s what leads to burnout.
🎯 Try one of these:
- Add a walk to your day
- Drink 2L of water
- Cook one balanced meal
- Get to bed a bit earlier
It doesn’t have to be huge. It just has to be doable.
✅ Step 3: Move But Not to Burn Off Calories
Don’t use exercise as punishment.
Move because it clears your head. Because it gives you energy. Because it reminds you that you can.
🎯 Keep it simple:
- A 20-min walk
- A quick home session
- Stretching or mobility
It all counts.
✅ Step 4: Don’t Try to “Undo” Christmas
Skipping meals. Detox teas. Excessive cardio.
None of it helps and it sets you up to fail.
🎯 Your body doesn’t need a cleanse.
It needs routine. Water. Protein. Sleep.
That’s it.
✅ Step 5: Be Kinder to Yourself Than You Want to Be
Most blokes talk to themselves like they’d never talk to a mate.
“You’ve let yourself go.”
“You’ve ruined it.”
“You always mess it up.”
That kind of talk gets you nowhere.
What you need now isn’t punishment it’s permission to start again without shame.

If You Keep Stopping and Starting… You’re Not Alone
If this time of year feels like a broken record start strong, fall off, beat yourself up you’re not the only one.
🎧 That’s exactly why I created these two free audio sessions.
No fluff. No “new year, new you” nonsense. Just straight-talking support from someone who’s helped men rebuild after every kind of setback.
Listen while you walk. While you cook. While you stare at the washing-up you’ve been avoiding.
Start small and start now.

Final Thought: You Don’t Need to “Earn” Your Way Back
You don’t have to make up for Christmas.
You don’t need to be perfect to move forward.
And you definitely don’t need to start again with shame in your back pocket.
You’re already on track the moment you decide to start showing up again.
